Our guest speaker is Dr. Angelica Walton (DNP, RN, CCRN), who serves as the current director of the Center for Planetary Health and Environmental Justice at the UMN School of Nursing.

Planetary Health is a solutions-oriented, transdisciplinary field based on a fundamental truth: human health and human civilization depend entirely on the flourishing of Earth’s natural systems. It focuses on understanding and responding to the severe health consequences of climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and resource depletion, recognizing that we cannot have healthy people on a sick planet. Healthcare systems today are facing a critical paradox: while delivering life-saving care, clinical operations generate substantial waste and environmental degradation that harm vulnerable communities and natural systems. Grounded in regional and global planetary health movement principles, this session reframes nursing practice through the lens of multispecies justice, Rights of Nature, and environmental ethics.
